SKOBSC 0 Old Scotch 2

On a bright and sunny day HDR the 3rd XI came up against the old firm for their final home game of the season.
With the usual vigour and energy, Skipper Bobby quoted Ezekiel for his pre match pep talk, on a day when pundits suggested that lines from Leviticus would have been more appropriate.

St Kevin’s started well with Andy Monagle, playing with energy up front, looking to find holes in the Scotch defence from cutting passes by Pat and Stuart. However, about 15 minutes in to the first half a hopeful ball forward from Scotch saw Dove(in goal) hesitate for a split second allowing the Scotch striker to loft the ball over the 3rd tallest of the La Fauci’s and into an empty net… Bobby tried to clear the ball off the line, but could quite there, great effort though.

SKOBSC didn’t drop their heads and started to find some rhythm with Nigel Camillieri pulling the strings in the midfield with some sublime touches. SKOBSC maintained good pressure in the 1st half but were restricted to a few long range efforts.

On the stroke of HT Richie Palmer went up bravely for a contested ball and was sandwiched by two players’ hips… down and partially out, he was left with a hip shaped imprint on his nose – it was a decent hit.

The second half saw Francis Gu start lively and his running added some impetus to Skevs but a miss-hit clearance saw the ball land kindly to a Scotch player who had an easy tap in 0-2.

Nevertheless SKOBSC kept fighting and had 3 great chances to get on the score sheet. First Ali rolled back the years beating two players down the right (including a nutmeg) before flashing the ball wide. Then two carbon copy chances were missed when Nigel floated two glorious free kicks into “the mixer” and in the mayhem the ball hit the woodwork but Skevs couldn’t quite get the ball over the line.

In the end, a hard fought game but errors cost us the points… onto the final game of the season.
