SENIORS REPORT 10-0 W

A Friday night special awaited the SKOBSC seniors against Lilydale Eagles. After a strong win the week previous against Mount Lilydale, the SKOBSC seniors wanted to continue to their form against an opponent struggling for points. A single change to the lineup, Leigh ‘Squiddy’ Cosentino proving he’s a modern renaissance man by replacing Alex and Jordan at the unfamiliar position of CB. Tiprat held his spot at LB meaning the backline didn’t have a ‘traditional’ defender with the Hound and KeTho rounding out the 4. Sal took his usual pussycat squad position in front of the back 4 with Rhys and Brad in front. Sacha, Gustavo Floro Flores and Fev made up the trident.

The attacking mentality was clear right from the start with SKOBSC piling on the pressure. It didn’t take long for them to get on the board; a well weighted through ball down the flank from the Tip allowed Fev to pull inside and pull the trigger, 1-0. The 2nd, came soon after… Sanchez latching onto a through ball and slotting it past the keeper with an elegant finish. Braaad was stiff not to find the next after a cute flick from Sacha at the top of the box found him on goal only to sky it over the bar. SKOBSC created a string of further chances but couldn’t beat the keeper, who despite the score was probably Lilydale’s best player. An incisive ball into the box found Rhys who had the ball pinched by Fev who bashed it in with his left to make it 3. It was turning into a rout, Flores going goal for goal with Fev with a cheeky backheel flick at the front post off KeTho’s driving cross for his 2nd to make it 4-0.

SKOBSC went into the break happy with the score but hungry for more. The hunger was only compounded by the appearance of KFC on the sideline from players sitting on the bench. Sensing a feast, the boys wanted more.

The 2nd half started where the first left of, Fev should have made it 5 but couldn’t get the ball from under his feet following a great angled ball from the Tip. He soon had a chance for amends after a penalty was called for (I have no idea what it was for…). Despite the chanting for Dal-E to take the spot kick, Fev stepped up and converted for his hat-trick. The keeper got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out. Gustavo wasn’t far behind, the South American star signing latching on to a loose ball in the box to tap in for his hat-trick and 5th goal in 3 games. Braaad got in on the action with a delicious curling finish from the edge of the box that gave the keeper no chance 7-0. The poor Lilydale boys weren’t really in the hunt, Fev increased the punishment after a solid header from Rhys and flick from Gus to beat the keeper and make it 8. Sacha had been the provider all day but couldn’t find the net. His efforts constantly blocked off the foot. After being stiff in the first half not to score a header, the Hound cashed in on the doublé with 2 almost identical goals to make it 9 and then 10-0.

The game finished with SKOBSC happy with the result but sympathetic towards Lilydale who struggled all night, barely having the players to field the side. Next week is the penultimate fixture against Healesville before the finale against Glen Wavelery. Goooooooo Montrose!

RESERVES REPORT 6-2 W

SKOB reserves took their second trip to Lilydale within the space of two weeks and in so would be their last long trip for the season. They were to take on the Eagles of Lilydale and by 6:05pm (kick off at 6:30pm) gaff Ian started to put his kit on until Charlie caught him with his pants down…..literally. Lilydale being bottom of the league SKOB knew that they had to start the game strong in order to control the game. That they did with Gian tearing up the right hand side with Tony and Dymond’s help creating many opportunities. But the first goal came from a likely source from an unlikely limb. Smoko scoring with his foot, in which could have been his first with his foot for the year. Rols and Charlie were now inserting dominance in the centre and as the ball went wide from Charlie to Basso, he crossed it in and Dymond gave it a slight touch to make it 2-0. As the half time drew near, SKOB wanted to make sure another was scored before half time and as Charlie placed one behind the keeper into the back of the net it was 3-0 at half time.

Not much talk was needed at half time as SKOB reserves were dominating play and that continued well into the second half with steam roller Roland letting the freshly substituted Eagles in the centre of the park know who was boss. As Sam Power made the score line 4-0 SKOB started getting complaisant and a bad pass in defence didn’t even wake up Balmy on the goal line and the Eagles got one back. 4-1. With smoko and now Charlie off, trustworthy Timmy Smart now got to play some attacking football. As Gian received the ball in defence from Dav, he passed it through to Timmy who put in an amazing ball to Petters and he put it around the keeper into the back of the net, making up for last weeks 10cm from goal miss. Once again SKOB fell asleep and the Eagles got another one back to make it 5-2, but Tony decided to finish them off and end the game 6-2. Well played SKOB!
